Announcements

12/22/10: The final letter grades have been submitted to the registrar. They should be available online within 24 hours.

12/13/10: REMINDER: For the project groups presenting tomorrow, please send me your presentation slides by 2pm on Tue 12/14/10. The final project reports are due on midnight Friday 12/17/10.
Please make sure that everyone has received an evaluation on all their paper presentations and scribe notes. If someone has not, please contact me ASAP.

11/3/10: For the mid-term project progress updates, please send me your progress reports and slides by noon next Tue (11/9).

10/27/10: Currently you need a CSELabs (formerly ITLabs) account to access the cluster machines. If you don't have a CSELabs account yet, you can register for an account here without any additional charge, since you should have already paid the CSELabs Tech fee for this class.

10/25/10: Because of a time conflict, the office hours for 10/26 will be held from 4-5pm.

10/15/10: Because of the number of project groups, we will have to use half of the penultimate class (12/7/10) for final project presentations as well. As a result, two paper presentations from that week have been moved up - one to 11/9/10 and another to 11/30/10. Please note the change in schedule - the respective presenters have been informed.

10/12/10: Reminder: The project proposal writeups were due midnight yesterday (10/11/10), and the proposal presentation slides are due by 2pm today (10/12/10). Please send these to the instructor if you haven't done so already.

10/7/10: More information on the shared project cluster has been added. See the link on the left.

9/29/10: Note the change in schedule - project proposals have been moved to Oct 12, while the papers from that week will now be discussed on Oct 5.

9/27/10: A shared virtual cluster and hadoop cluster would be set up for use in the class projects. More details will be put up soon.

9/21/10: Links to class presentation slides and scribe notes have been put up on the schedule page. These have restricted access to students enrolled in the class (Requires UMN login/passwd).

9/15/10: A link to the class forum has been added. Please use it for class-related discussions and to form Red teams/project teams, etc.

9/14/10: A detailed presentation schedule has been put up. Please check your presentation/scribing assignments. Note that the order of presentations has been slightly modified for a few papers from the ordering in the reading list.

9/10/10: A tentative schedule has been put up - I'll be updating it soon once I have got all the student preferences. I have also added three more papers to the reading list (see Distr/Data-Intensive Computing #3, Cost Analysis #4, and PotPourri #2). If anyone who has already sent their preferences really wants to pick one of these, please let me know soon.

9/10/10: I have increased the class capacity by 2 seats and based on the remaining vacancies, I have allowed 5 more students into the class (whom I have contacted directly by email). I thank everyone who came to the first class, and showed so much interest in the course. I regret I could not let more people into the class at this time. However, I will still allow more students in over the next few days if any other seats become open.

9/6/10: A Reading list and Course Work links have been added on the left.

8/26/10: As I have received interest from multiple students to enroll in the class, I will wait till the first week of classes to hand out additional permission numbers. If you are interested in taking the class, you are strongly encouraged to come to the first class.

8/5/10: The class has currently reached its registration limit. If you are interested in taking the class, you are strongly encouraged to come to the first class. Attendance in the first class would be used to draw up a waiting list for students who were unable to enroll earlier.

7/29/10: Welcome to CSCI 8980! Please check the Information link on the left for class information. The class website would be updated soon with more details.

Note: This class is open only to graduate students and requires instructor permission to enroll. If you would like to enroll in this class, please read the Course Overview and make sure you satisfy the pre-requisites. You can talk to the instructor if you have any questions.
